Project overview

Scope & delivery

Euthenics provided survey, roadway and bridge design, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, geotechnical and utility coordination, right-of-way support, maintenance-of-traffic planning, and Stage 1 structural plans for replacement of the Cynthiana Road (C.R. 17) bridge over Heads Branch at the upstream end of Hickory Hills Lake in Brushcreek Township, Highland County, Ohio (ODOT PID 122086). The existing two-lane bridge was an approximately 64-foot single-span steel beam bridge with a concrete deck and concrete and masonry abutments. The proposed replacement is an 80-foot single-span prestressed concrete box-beam bridge with a composite reinforced-concrete deck, 28-foot out-to-out width, 30-degree right-forward skew, and reinforced-concrete capped-pile abutments founded on piles. Euthenics surveyed Heads Branch and evaluated the 10-percent annual-exceedance-probability design storm and 1-percent check storm. The proposed larger waterway opening reduced upstream water-surface elevations and flow velocities and met the applicable ODOT hydraulic requirements. The scour evaluation addressed contraction and abutment scour, while the geotechnical investigation documented variable fill, alluvial and outwash soils, and interbedded dolomite and shale that informed foundation design. Utility coordination addressed South Central Power aerial electric facilities, Highland County Water, and AT&T aerial copper and fiber facilities. Euthenics also prepared detour plans for the roadway and bridge closure.
