Project overview

Scope & delivery

Under a general engineering services agreement with the Lorain County Engineer, Euthenics prepared survey, roadway, utility-coordination, and structural design services for the superstructure replacement of the Oberlin Road bridge over Battenhouse Ditch in Amherst Township, Lorain County, Ohio (PID 117399; Bridge No. LOR-TR 039-01.28). The work included locating the roadway centerline and property pins, completing topographic survey and basemapping, developing simplified plans for the existing non-composite concrete box-beam superstructure, and preparing final construction plans and quantities. To provide a shallower replacement superstructure, the selected design uses a cast-in-place reinforced-concrete slab with reinforced-concrete abutment work, twin steel-tube bridge railing, 12-inch reinforced-concrete approach slabs, and a structure grounding system. Utility coordination addressed the 15-inch sanitary sewer along the east side of the bridge, the 12-inch storm conduit outlets through the abutment walls, a waterline parallel to the roadway west of the bridge, and nearby aerial telecommunications, gas, and electric facilities. Euthenics coordinated utility contacts and plan reviews, prepared detour and maintenance-of-traffic plans for complete road closure, and supported the project through final plan submittal. Construction of the project was completed in 2023 with federal and state funding.
